Maths Week Estimation Fun!
As part of Maths Week, the boys and girls across the school took part in some exciting estimation challenges!
The senior classes — 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th — were challenged to estimate the weight of a pumpkin. To help them out, they used a kilogram of rice for comparison before making their guesses. Well done to Eoghan and Odhran, who came closest with their estimations and themselseves a packet of sweets!
The actual weight of the pumpkin was 1.42 kilograms (1420 grams) — impressive work everyone!
Meanwhile, the junior end of the school — Junior Infants, Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Class — had a different challenge. They had to estimate how many dice were in a box! There were so many close guesses that we had to hold a lucky dip to decide the winners. Congratulations to Aiveen and James, who each won a packet of sweets! They could choose to share them with their class or take them home to enjoy.
Throughout the week, each class also took part in a Starburst Challenge. Everyone estimated how many sweets were in a bag — and even guessed how many of each colour there would be. The person with the most accurate estimation in each class won the bag of Starburst!
It was a fantastic week full of fun, laughter, and great mathematical thinking. Well done to all the boys and girls for taking part and making Maths Week such an enjoyable experience for everyone!
