A Day of Days for the Girls
23rd Oct 2025
22nd of October 2025 will live long in the annals of Mulhussey N.S. where a 23 year wait for a Cumann na mBunscol title was finally ended with a display of football for the ages by our magnificent girl's team.
The final score at the end of a breath-taking contest was 9-9 to 9-2. Jubilant scenes from young and old witnessed the final whistle as the long wait was finally over. Having contested semi finals over the past few years, it was felt the moment would never come but the weight of desperation never once showed in the girl's performance. Racing into a 1-1 to 0-0 lead after a few minutes calmed the nerves, but they were to resurface once again as Kilskyre shown their class and rattled goal after goal.
Behind by five at half time, the team found themselves with a mountain to climb, but the second half display will be spoken about for many years to come by all present. All over the field, the girls showed their grit and absolute refusal to lose and in a pulsating last few minutes with the game in the balance, scores were accrued at vital times to keep us just ahead.
The final blast of the referee's whistle was greeted with utter jubilation with an impromptu mini pitch invasion by pupils of the school who cheered their heroes to victory.
A much deserving Eloise Butler accepted the cup on behalf of the players and Holly Fagan received the player of the match award for a stellar performance that will live long in the memory.
It was a victory to be savoured by so many people. The coaches at Blackhall Gaels in particular, many of whom are parents of the girls, for the foundation for the victory was set many years by this dedicated team of volunteers who look after their parish club with incredible dedication at underage level. They too must revel in their victory as justification for all their toil.
The children were greeted back at the school with a rapturous reception by their adoring band of supporters. It was a pleasure to witness the joy and pride in people's faces as loved ones savoured the moment of joy as they too played an incredible role in the victory.
Again, a thanks to the parents and families of the children, Parent's Association, Board of Management, Secretary Ann, Staff and Principal Miss Murray, Kilcloon Pitch Committee and Fitzsimon's Coaches.
A day of days that the children so richly deserve and a memory to last a lifeline to footballers with incredibly bright futures.
Panel: Ava Ryan, Eloise Butler (Captain), Tara Fagan, Lucy Dalton, Elizabeth Magan, Abbey Dalton, Holly Fagan, Lauren Dalton, Aoife Foley, Rebecca Rus, Nicoleta Hariton, Lucy Ganley, Kate Rogers, Laura Regan, Katie Rose Sadler and Katie Boyle.
