When we arrived at the library we were fifteen minutes early. Ms. Beirne told us to sit down and read a book while we waited. Finally, after fifteen minutes of reading the other schools arrived. They all sat down and then the poet arrived. He was called Paul Cookson. He told us of this poem called Bottoms! Yes there is such a thing as a poem called Bottoms! After that he told us of a book that was illustrated by the person who draws the Beano star Dennis the Menace. He then told us of a poem called Mrs Eagle Eyes and a teacher called Mrs. Hogsflesh. It was quite funny. After that we were told us of a song called the Boing Boing song or at least I think that’s what its called. After that we were told about his time in school and he told us of a thing in England called a lunch hall where you bought a lunch. He also told us a poem about one of his lunch ladies who was taller then him and wider which he joked about. He then told us of a poem called The Lunch lady. After that we said our goodbyes to him and we got a picture taken with him. It was a fun trip and I hope to do something like that again! (Alfie, 6th Class)
Our Trip To Dunboyne Library
We went to Dunboyne Library to see Paul Cookson who is from England. He came out and read us a poetry book called Rude Words. Some of the poems were called Bottoms, Mrs Eagle Eyes, Pants on Fire, Boing, When the wasp flew up my brothers shorts and The toilet has teeth. Then some pupils from our school showed him Pants on Fire and he enjoyed it! Then after an hour we went home. It was a very good day. (Kallum, 5th) We met a famous poet called Paul Cookson and he performed poems and he told funny jokes. Here are some of his poems: Boing, Ms Eagles Eyes and Bottoms. But the best one was performed by me and a few other students from my class. We performed Pants on Fire! I liked the poem about a crocodile in the house. He told us weird teacher names such as Ms Hogsflesh. I loved the visit! It was funny and fun! Paul Cookson copied a few poems ... sorry he magpied a few poems! (Rory, 4th) |

He told us that some stories have a meaning like Roald Dahl’s stories. He told us a story, about a boy and his mean mother and how she made him sell a cow but came back with beans. He planted the beans but a giant bean stalk grew with gold leaves. A giant lived at the top and was angry that he was taking his leaves. His mum was angry and climbed up the stalk but the giant ate her. (Kate, 3rd class) |

| 1916 Ceremony | Mar 17 2016, 3:08 PM |
|
Today was a very exciting and important day. It was a ceremony in memory of the 1916 rising 100 years ago. All the schools here in Ireland had celebrations. Our school did quite a lot for it. We raised the Irish flag and sang the National Anthem. We did a poem called the Rose tree by William Bulter Yeates. Sean Ganley planted a Rose Tree. Mr Mc Cabe read the proclamation and 6gh class read our own 2016 Proclamation aswell. We sang songs and all the parents watched us and Daruis whistled the song Oró Sé Do Bheatha bhaile because Padraig Pearse whistled it before he was executed. It was a very special event for our school. Soliders also came in earier in the year for the 1916 rising and we sang the national anthem for them.

| County Final | Dec 15 2015, 2:14 PM |
|
On Sunday the 13th of December 2015. After two cancellations our county final against Moynalty/Carnaross finally went ahead. It started off badly with a flukey goal from a free kick for Moynalty/Carnaross. But a few minutes later black hall Gaels took the lead with three amazing goals by our captain Conner Duffy. A few minutes later Moynalty/Carnaross got another flukey goal. Then the manager decided to make some changes by bringing on his secret weapons David Sheeran, Charlie Mulligan, Kilian Mangan and Luke Jennings. In the second half Black Hall Gaels kept on scoring and Moynalty/Carnaross soon lost. We won at the end by 11 points, thanks to our brilliant squad of 21 players. We were then presented with OUR trophy. We then went to SUPERMACS!!!!!!!!!!

| Spooky Walk 2015 | Nov 03 2015, 2:27 PM |
|
We had the spooky on the 23rd of October. At one o’clock we went outside and then we ran around the car park. When the walk was over we went into the court yard and played games including musical chairs, guess the weight of the pumpkin and guess the goo. We also had prizes for musical chairs so all their time battling to get a chair was worth it. A girl in 3rd won the guess the weight of the pumpkin and got to keep it. Some of the older kids (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th) played Gaelic until three o’clock. We all got sweets at the end so those that didn’t get a prize didn’t feel left out. Fun was had by all. | The way to water | Jun 02 2015, 2:38 PM |
|
We started of using the hose in the school garden to water our plants. Then 2 pupils came up with an idea to collect rainwater from the drains, water from the sinks and water from our water fountain from water that spilled out of the bottles. Then after some pallets were delivered for the bug hotel we had one pallet left over then we found out that loads of water flows off the roof off our shed. So we put old glass bottles and plastic cups filled with stones on the ground next to the shed. As they fell over very easilly, we put the pallet under it and we got an old piece of wood and put it behind the cups for shelter and then they didn't fall over. Then we wanted more water so we cut off the tops of old bottles and shoved them in the drains. We are now saving the water in buckets in case of a heatwave (Charlie , 4th and Kilian 5th class). |

We are making a bug hotel to stop bugs from eating the plants and flowers and to attract a wide variety of bugs to one area. First we got pallets and we got lots of black flower pots and put them in the side of the pallets. We stuffed them with broken sticks and other stuff like pinecones, pebbles and woodlice. We are going to stuff straw in the sides of the bug hotel when we have finished stacking the pallets. (Paul Ross, 6th).

First Sean dug a post into the ground. He nailed another post to it for the arms. We stuffed his trousers with straw. We tied rope at the end to stop the straw falling out. Then we stuffed his shirt and buttoned it up. We attached gloved to his arms. We drew a scary face on a pillow case for his head which we also studded with straw. He wrapped ascarf around his neck. We need to add a hat and wellies (Carmelina and Cormac, 4th class). |
